Welcome back to 52 weeks of Quarter Turns week #2
Many of you emailed me last week and asked why I would have you write down 12 business and 12 personal goals to gain your clarity in 2022. I realize this may seem like a lot at first, but usually once you get going it’s not as hard as it looks.
There is actually a reason why I ask all my coaching clients and why I am asking you to come up with this many goals is simple. Most of us haven’t really taken the time to be present and focused enough to really think about what we want.
The first few goals usually come with great ease, probably because you have been thinking about them. Things like making more money, or getting a new role in your company or a different company pop right up to the surface. But if you really take the time to sit and think about what you truly want, you might be surprised by what actually gets written down on your paper.
By stretching yourself to commit to 12 personal and 12 professional goals, you get past all the noise, or what you believe you are supposed to want, and start getting to what you really want.
Very few people I meet or work with have clarity about what they want, but almost everyone I meet is crystal clear on what they don’t’ want. The problem is your brain doesn’t understand the difference, it just moves in the direction of wherever your thoughts are focused.
Think about the last time you bought a car. Do you remember how excited you were? How this was such a great car, and there weren’t many others like it on the road and certainly none that were the same color. Then what happened the minute you drove the car off the lot? BAM! All of a sudden you saw your exact same car everywhere you looked.
How did that happen? Did all these cars just magically appear? Of course not, but that’s how our brains are hard-wired. Once we think about something in our mind with clarity and focus, our brain then begins to seek it out in the real world. It’s not magic, and it’s not “the secret” it’s just our DNA.
High performers have an amazing ability to filter out what isn’t important and create clarity on what they really want. That is the biggest first step you can take towards achievement.
So this week I will ask you once again to commit into writing 12 professional and 12 personal goals. Get that amazing machine in your head working for you instead of against you.
Cheers to your continued success
