There is a great quote that states,

“A good plan implemented today is better than a perfect plan implemented tomorrow.”

There is a lot of confusion and misconceptions out there around why it’s so important to create a plan. The biggest seems to be that we create a plan so that things go perfectly. Nothing could be further from the truth. Plans are not put into place for perfection, they are put into place to people know where they are going, and what they need to focus their attention on today. Your plan will help identify where that starting point is so you and your teams can take action right now.

By the way, if you happen to be a perfectionist, here’s something that might be comforting to you:

“You are not paid for perfection in your role, you are paid for results”

Those results require an often imperfect plan to get you started towards the end game.

When you are creating your or implementing your plan, know that the plan is there to help everyone identify the first step. From there you can move on to step two, step three and so on, until you are fully engaged in the process and building the momentum necessary to end up at your final objectives.

Throw perfection out the window and focus on creating the best plan possible today. Your plan is bound to change at some point in the process so striving for a perfect plan is really just delaying the you from ever getting started.

Remember a good plan implemented today is better than a perfect plan implemented tomorrow.

Cheers to you and your plan
