Reality Check

Here is a Reality Check

I was driving my son to school this past Monday and the radio announcer boldly stated that is was June 1st 2015! I almost had to pull over and stop the car. How the heck did that happen already? Just yesterday it was January 1st, yet somehow I know before I get a chance to blink it’s going to be Labor Day and I’m going to wonder to myself where has the summer gone!

I like to use these bold reminders of how quickly time passes to take the opportunity to step off the never-ending treadmill and review my goals for the year. In case you haven’t heard in about three weeks 2015 will be half over so if there was ever a time to take stock in where you are year to date, this is it.

These are the questions I have asked myself this week:

Where am I on my professional, personal, financial and other goals for the year?

After this full review, what areas do I need to put more energy and focus into over the coming weeks to really feel like I’ve gained traction?

What goals are not longer as relevant or not as important as I thought they were back in January? Am I still committed to those goals?

What new opportunities or challenges have come up that I will create new goals around?

What adjustments and course corrections will I make in order to stay on track, or get myself back on track?

I have a hard date of the July 4th weekend to revisit, review and make adjustments to my business and personal plan so that I can re-focus my energy and attention over the next 6 months of the year.

Finally and probably most important: Take some time to celebrate success and all the little “wins” I have accomplished this year.

After all life is far too short not to cross the goal line, spike the ball and do a little touchdown dance. Before you know it we will be drafting our fantasy teams and watching football for real!

Thoughts for the week:

If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.Bruce Lee

Better three hours too soon than a minute too late. –William Shakespeare

If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?John Wooden

Time is what we want the most, but use the worst. –William Penn

Don’t spend time beating on a wall hoping to transform it into a door.Coco Chanel

To understand the true value of time read this:

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly journal.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Time is our most precious gift and the great equalizer, no one gets more or less. Spend your time wisely.

Looking forward to our next conversation
