In the Final Stretch


 

In case you haven’t already noticed we are well into the final quarter of 2017. How is that for a reality check?

 

That’s right friends, 3 quarters down and less than 1 quarter to go. The good news is we still have 10 weeks left to complete our goals and objectives for 2017. The bad news is we only have 10 weeks left to complete our goals and objectives for 2017.

 

Either way it’s time to put the pedal to the metal and get into full gear. Start by pulling out your business plans from the beginning of they year. Take inventory on what you have accomplished so far. Re-set, re-establish, and re-energize what you have left to achieve for the year.

 

This is also a great time to celebrate some of the wins you’ve accomplished up to this point. Remember if you don’t take the opportunity to celebrate your success, than who will? Also if you happen to lead a team then tell me what message are you sending to them if you fail to recognize what’s been accomplished so far this past year.

 

Once you do a quick high five or fist bump, it’s time to re-commit on the main objectives you have for the next 70 days. Lay out your plan to be laser focused on everything you plan to get done prior to the ball drop on December 31st.

 

Some of those goals set back in January are no longer relevant to your current business, so cross them off the list. The goals that are still in play are the ones to really dig into right now. The key here is to keep the main thing- the main thing. No distractions and no excuses.

 

This is also a good time to start thinking about 2018. My first coach used to always tell me, start planning next year in October, because if you wait till January to think about it, then you will not get started until April. Some of your goals will naturally get pushed to next year as long as they are still relevant. Some may need a bit of revising or re-wording but there’s always a few that will carry over.

 

This should not be mistaken as an opportunity to beat yourself up over what hasn’t been done, but rather a time to re-commit and challenge yourself to focus on what is really important in order to close out the year strong. By completing this simple Quarter Turn you will begin 2018 with the momentum of a freight train, rather than a skateboard.

 

This coming week it’s important to ask yourself the following questions:

 

  1. What goals and objectives do I need to put serious thought and planning into over the next few weeks.
  2. Which goals are no longer relevant to my business and can be removed.
  3. What am I going to do this week to energize myself and my team to power through the next 70 days?
  4. When and where am I willing to commit 1 hour to working on my 2018 business plan?
  5. How will I keep the main thing, the main thing as I finish up the year?
  6. What other strategies will I put into place to build momentum heading into 2018?
